Do I still need TXT?

Usually no. Follow the CNAME guide, then Detect CNAME in the merchant portal.

Old phone TXT records can be ignored or removed if present.

What did TXT used to do?

Earlier flows checked an apex TXT matching the last 5 digits of the login phone. That is no longer a required step.
